With 'SAT Night NYC,' Fumi Kondoh takes it straight back to the sleazy, after-dark energy of downtown Manhattan in the '90s: raw grooves, hypnotic rhythms, dirty synths and the unmistakable attitude of a New York dance floor deep into the night.

 

That sound is more than an influence for Fumi - it is part of his history. After moving to the US in 1989, he immersed himself in New York nightlife, experiencing legendary clubs including Sound Factory, Red Zone, Palladium and Limelight firsthand. He later became part of Junior Vasquez's engineering team, working behind the scenes on numerous productions and helping shape music from one of the most influential eras of NYC club culture.

His own productions became part of that story as well. 'Ohyeeaah', released on Groovilicious in 1998, became one of his signature records after receiving major support from Junior Vasquez at Twilo, while 'I Got Something,' released as Fumix feat. Ellis D on Junior Vasquez Music further cemented Fumi's connection to the classic New York sounds. With 'SAT Night NYC,' Fumi brings that era to today's dancefloors. Packed with his signature sounds, the track feels like a Saturday night in Manhattan that never really ended.
